While it’s often smart for the average businessman to stay out of politics, politics matter. If you have a small business, you better side with the democrats. On the other hand, if you are making over a certain amount, the likelihood is that you will do better by siding with the Republicans, especially when it comes to taxes.
Regardless of your other opinions, a lose for the Republican party is a hit against big business, meaning the fall of Herman Cain, one of the Republican party’s strongest candidates (partly because he happens to be black, reinforcing the idea that the Republican party can support diversity too), is not something to be taken lightly.
According to attorney Gloria Allred, there are now 4 women, the 4th unidentified so far, who have come forward to make complaints against Cain. Technically, some of the complaints were made years ago, meaning we should have known. Two women filed internal complaints against Cain in the 1990’s and received settlements for it.
However, there is a third woman who reportedly considered filing another complaint while working for the NRA, but chose not to because complaints had already been filed. Cain has always denied these allegations, and he has further accused the Texas governor Rick Perry of leaking this information. However, for us, Perry wouldn’t have information to leak if there weren’t accusations and further settlements.
Cain so far states that “everything has been answered.” However, obviously journalists and citizens alike don’t seem to agree. People want answers. Cain has tried to portray these allegations as pure fabrications from the liberal media. However, we really can’t ignore the fact that 2 of the allegations were filed in the 1990’s, before Cain even considered presidency, and a third was said to occur within the same time frame. The 4th remains to be seen.
All in all, this is somewhat bad news for big business. We have a previously strong Republican candidate in trouble for something that goes against many supposed Republican values skirting around the issue itself, which has what would seem like strong evidence to back it up.
